Challenge

Hogan Lovells, a prominent global law firm, faced the decision of whether to refurbish their existing headquarters at Atlantic House, Holborn Viaduct, or relocate to a new facility. The primary challenge was to assess the feasibility of an in-situ refurbishment that would modernise the 13-storey building without disrupting the firm's ongoing operations. This required a comprehensive evaluation of the building's critical systems, many of which were approaching the end of their operational life, and the development of a strategic plan to upgrade the infrastructure while the premises remained occupied.

Solution

G&T was appointed to lead the 'Stay vs Go' feasibility study, conducting an extensive desktop analysis of the building's condition and potential for refurbishment. Upon Hogan Lovells' decision to remain at Atlantic House, we managed the phased renovation of all 13 floors, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations. The refurbishment encompassed upgrades to client event spaces, the introduction of agile working environments, and enhancements to staff welfare facilities, including canteen and gym areas. Our proactive project management facilitated coordination among multiple stakeholders, driving an ambitious design programme to achieve optimal value for the client.

Outcome

The successful completion of the phased refurbishment transformed Atlantic House into a contemporary and efficient workspace that aligns with Hogan Lovells' operational needs and corporate identity. The modernised facilities have improved client engagement areas and provided flexible working environments that support collaboration and productivity. G&T's strategic oversight ensured that the project was delivered on time and within budget, reinforcing the firm's commitment to maintaining a high-quality workplace while minimising disruption to its legal practice.
