Battersea Power Station

Following the official launch event of Battersea Power Station in September 2012, G&T was appointed as cost manager consultants by the Battersea Project Land Company.

The first phase of the development will consist of multiple residential buildings containing a total of 800 apartments standing above a commercial podium which will include retail, restaurants, gym, pool, spa, theatre and office studios. A new six-acre park, open to the public, adjacent to the river and directly linking to Battersea Park next door, will form the setting for the new riverside buildings.

This phase will be self-contained. The site was acquired, following an open market tender, for £400 million through a special purpose vehicle known as Battersea Project Holding Company Ltd (BPHC). The finished project will be worth £8bn and will generate significant contributions to the UK economy, creating about 26,000 jobs, both through direct and indirect employment. Ravi Govindia, Wandsworth Council's leader, said: "The district-wide regeneration programme will be one of the greatest sources of new jobs and homes in the country over the next few years."

Prospect Place

Los Angeles firm Gehry Partners is collaborating with London office Foster + Partners on the residential development that will connect the repurposed power station with a new London Underground station, as part of Rafael Viñoly's masterplan for the 17-hectare site.

Central to the development will be a pedestrianised high street, known as The Electric Boulevard. To its west, Gehry has designed a cluster of five residential buildings known as Prospect Place, while Foster + Partners has developed one large apartment block known as The Skyline, which will be located to the east. Prospect Place will accommodate around half of the 1300 new homes, as well as double-height shops, a community centre and a park. All five buildings will feature Gehry's signature rippled facades, and the central structure will also be given a sculptural flower-shaped plan.
