Crossrail
Crossrail is a £15bn railway project that comprises upgrades to the existing network and a new tunnelled section under the centre of London connecting 10 new and 30 existing stations.
The 42km of new bored tunnels, constructed with eight tunnel boring machines are lined with pre-cast concrete segments. The tunnelling element includes shafts, cross passages and station platform tunnels typically constructed using sprayed concrete lining techniques. There are eight new sub-surface stations and five portal structures at entrances to the tunnelled sections.
The project requires the acquisition of a significant property portfolio and incorporates a number of over-site development agreements. The new railway systems elements comprise track, signalling, telecoms, power and complex control interfaces with the existing network.
G&T has supported the current Crossrail 1 project from its early development states until present day in secondment arrangements through the project delivery partner. Our role has evolved to meet the needs of the project at each stage including route selection, Bill preparation and deposit, Parliamentary support, agreement of funding arrangements, procurement of the works and the post contract delivery stages.
