As a national centre of excellence for structural dynamics research, the new facility includes large open workspaces for specialist equipment with flexible space for engineering activities together with associated office accommodation.
The sub-structure has a 6m deep pit to house a shaker table to model earthquake and other resonance activities. G&T was a central figure in the definition of the vibration performance of the structure to ensure that the research was not impacted by internal or external vibration sources - including future proofing for HS2.
