National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art

National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art

The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art is a landmark development to promote the cultural heritage of racing, education, the conservation of historic buildings and the further regeneration of Newmarket town centre.

The project involved the restoration of the Grade II* Listed Palace House and its conversion to an exhibition facility together with the restoration and extension of the Grade II Listed Trainer’s House and the King’s Yard Stables to provide exhibition, education, administrative, retail and catering facilities. Rothschild Yard has also been adapted into a working equine visitor attraction.

Works included specialist refurbishment techniques involving the use of appropriate building materials, extensive remodelling of an existing listed building and the construction of a new deep basement.

The development was delivered in association with The British Sport Art Trust, The Home of Horseracing Trust, Jockey Club Estates, Retraining of Racehorses and Forest Heath District Council.
