Challenge
The University of Sheffield aimed to establish the Integrated Civil and Infrastructure Research Centre (iCAIR) to apply cutting-edge research to the construction and infrastructure sectors, thereby enhancing productivity and resilience. The challenge involved designing a facility that could accommodate advanced research activities, including the National Distributed Water Infrastructure Facility, while fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
Solution
To realise this vision, the University appointed G&T to provide Project Management services for the development of iCAIR. The facility comprises workshop spaces, offices, reception areas, and meeting rooms, specifically designed to support research into the performance of distributed urban water infrastructure. Our role ensured that the project was delivered efficiently, meeting the specific requirements of a state-of-the-art research environment.
Outcome
The successful completion of iCAIR has provided the University of Sheffield with a national research facility that bridges the gap between advanced research and practical applications in the construction and infrastructure sectors. The centre now facilitates long-term collaborations between academia and industry, positioning the university at the forefront of next-generation infrastructure research.
