West Gorton Community Park
West Gorton Community Park will tackle climate change and provide the local community with a space to grow and play.
Designed by BDP (Landscape Architects), Arup (Civil Engineers) and in consultation with residents, the new community park is made up of three interconnected spaces - a woodland, a meadow and a garden area. Features include a "rain garden" which provides an intelligent water and planting system, informal play area and a garden event space for the community.
The park is the final element of the West Gorton regeneration programme, which has seen the neighbourhood transformed with new housing and community facilities.
The park has been developed with funding from the European Commission's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, as part of GrowGreen, a Europe-wide initiative. GrowGreen aims to demonstrate how green infrastructure and nature-based solutions will produce climate resilience, environmental, social and health and wellbeing outcomes and benefits.
