G&T's Proud to support 'Open Eddington' at North West Cambridge

Gardiner & Theobald is proud to support Open Eddington on Saturday 9th September 2017 – a showcase of the University of Cambridge’s new district in the City and part of the Open Cambridge national Heritage Open Day scheme designed to provide an opportunity for people to discover the history and heritage of their local community.

Eddington is the new local centre and meeting point of the North West Cambridge Development. Located between Madingley Road, Huntingdon Road and the M11, construction of the new district began in 2013 and the first phase of the project is now open to residents and the local and wider community.

"We are thrilled to present a whole day of activities and events for the public that illustrate the depth and breadth of our project ethos."

Heather Topel, Project Director of the North West Cambridge Development

Open Eddington will feature over 25 different events led by the renowned architects, professionals, and development partners who have all contributed to creating this new place and will explore the ethos of architecture and sustainability which sit at the heart of the development.

Heather Topel, Project Director of the North West Cambridge Development said:

“We are thrilled to present a whole day of activities and events for the public that illustrate the depth and breadth of our project ethos.  The University’s ambitions to create a sustainable community of exceptional design quality at Eddington have been explicit, and at Open Eddington, we are delighted that so many of our project architects, consultants and partners will share with you the detail of their involvement in this exemplar development. We hope many of our friends, neighbours and supporters will take the time to join us for this occasion.”

G&T has worked on the North West Cambridge Development since 2009 providing Cost Planning and Cost Management services as well as Life Cycle Costing and Strategic Asset and FM Consultancy. The scheme, which won the ‘Future Projects Master Planning Award’ at the World Architecture Festival in 2014, has a unique vision to turn 140 hectares of green belt land into a new district and extension to the city centred around a mixed academic and urban community.

The development will address the need for more affordable housing for staff and post-graduate students and build on the ‘Cambridge Phenomenon’ – the clustering of more than 1,000 high technology companies in the region which has contributed significantly to the success of the local and UK economy and to the University’s stature as one of the world’s leading education institutions renowned for the excellence of its teaching and research.
