The Rockfield Centre Receives Funding

The Rockfield Centre has secured funding to create a community hub at the heart of Oban.

The project aims to develop a former Victorian primary school and its grounds into a mixed-use business, arts, heritage, performance and community area for Oban and the wider population of Lorn.

This community led project is spearheaded by the Oban Community Trust (OCT), who hope it will attract visitors to the area through its arts and culture, and create a central space for local residents to learn new skills and work collaboratively.

G&T is providing Cost Management services on this regeneration scheme that will involve three elements of development, including:

  • The main building - to realise the potential of the much loved facility and bring it back into active use.
  • The former temporary classroom huts - currently being used for a range of community activities.
  • The playground - currently acting as a town centre car park.
"G&T is delighted to be involved in this exciting project. The support of the community is fantastic and a real strength of the development."

John McGee, G&T Partner

The OCT has secured the majority of the required funding for the project through grants from the Big Lottery Community Assets programme, Regional Capital Grant Funding and Historic Environment Scotland.

In May 2018, it will launch a community share offer to raise further funds from the many people, both locally and throughout the world, who have connections with Oban and who have happy memories of attending primary school at Rockfield.
