Assistant Project Manager, Sara Barker Owen, represented G&T at the City of Westminster College’s built environment careers day last month.
Organised by Laing O’Rourke and in partnership with Paddington Partnership, key teams involved in the development at Soho Place, joined together to educate students about the variety of careers available within the built environment.
The students, who were all in their first and second year of their civil engineering course, were split in to small groups of four and rotated around the team’s stations in seven minute intervals. Volunteers from AHMM Architects, Laing O’Rourke and Derwent also took part, each giving an overview of their role on the project, ranging from designers to site managers.
“The students had lots of questions about the role of a project manager, about the day to day job, my particular role on Soho Place and how I came to work as a PM in a consultancy, amongst all the other roles in construction”Sara Barker-Owen
G&T Assistant Project Manager
G&T is proud to have provided Project Management services on the development since its inception in 2006. The scheme consists of two buildings No1 and No2 Soho Place, separated by a new public space on Sutton Row and is due for completion in 2022.
No1 Soho Place will be a mix of high quality retail and office space, topped with a tenth floor terrace offering panoramic views across London. No2 Soho Place, on the other hand, will form the first purpose-built theatre for in-the-round performance in London and the first new-build theatre in the West End for 50 years, alongside another three floors of office space.
