In response to the COVID-19 crisis and following the need to cancel face to face fundraising events throughout 2020 the Marie Curie Brain Game organisers launched the Great Scottish Autumn Auction, with every penny spent going towards supporting people living with a terminal illness and their families.

The popular Marie Curie Brain Game generates vital funds for the charity in a number of locations across the UK by hosting annual fundraising events and has been supported by G&T since it began.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring this opportunity to our supporters who want to get behind us during these difficult times."

Catherine Maclean

Special Events Manager for Marie Curie

The Glasgow Brain Game first began back in 2006 as an eight table black tie quiz at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and has since increased in popularity to a record event held in 2019 which raised an incredible £145,000 to support those families affected by life limiting diseases including cancer, MND, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

G&T has hosted a table at the Glasgow Brain Game since its inception to provide ongoing support to the charity’s vital fundraising efforts. David Logue, G&T Partner and Board Member became Chair of the Brain Game Committee two years ago.

“We sadly lost my younger brother to cancer three years ago and Marie Curie is a charity close to our hearts. This year they stand to lose over £200,000 in fundraising due to the cancellation of their fundraising dinners in Glasgow and Edinburgh, so the Great Scottish Autumn Auction is a fantastic opportunity for us all to get behind this wonderful charity and raise much needed funding.”

Catherine Maclean, Special Events Manager for Marie Curie commented:

“This year has been challenging for everyone, we have had to adapt to the changing world around us. Marie Curie relies on fundraising income to provide that vital care when someone is living through a terminal illness. This year our fundraising activities ground to a halt back in March with huge financial losses for the charity. We are thrilled to be able to bring this opportunity to our supporters who want to get behind us during these difficult times. For many of the people we care for, this will be their last Christmas, time is not on their side. The Great Scottish Autumn Auction is a win-win, you get to bid while helping us provide the much-needed care for our patients.”

The auction includes over 70 items such as staycations, sporting experiences, Christmas gifts and art - closing at 7pm on Sunday 15th November.

Over 2,000 Marie Curie nurses work in villages, towns and cities across the UK. In addition to the nursing service, Marie Curie provides hospice care, delivering high quality nursing and emotional support for patients and families having to cope with terminal illness.
