TRADA's University Challenge 2020 will ask students to design sustainable community housing from timber in multi-disciplinary groups of six.

In February, 60 students from universities across the UK will descend on Cardiff University for a ‘charrette style’ challenge. The students will form 10 multi-disciplinary teams to compete for prizes and the prestige of winning the TRADA University Challenge.

"The TRADA University challenge is a unique and exciting opportunity for students across a variety of disciplines, who are about to embark on their professional careers, to collaborate as a team."

The competition brings together final year undergraduate students of architecture, architectural technology, engineering, quantity surveying and landscape architecture related courses. It creates opportunities for students to interact with timber industry forerunners and design professionals while gaining valuable practical experience.

'It is a challenge and opportunity for the current and future generations to engage with the supply chain, to learn and understand these technologies better in order to estimate costs more accurately to inform the clients of the future."

As an expert in modern methods of construction, G&T Partner, Oliver Booth joins a the panel of judges which also includes Mikhail Riches’ James Turner, Stride Treglown's Rob Wheaton, Cullinan Studio’s Hannah Durham, Ramboll’s Tom Harley-Tuffs, BuroHappold’s Natasha Watson, Entuitive’s Toby Maclean, and PLAN:design's Holly Birtles and Jack Dilworth.

Find out more about the challenge on TRADA's website.
