Next week sees the return of the Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival, the yearly behind the scenes look into the city’s architectural past and present, with key discussions on its future. After a fully digital 2020 programme, this year will see a mix of in-person and digital events, celebrating Glasgow, its heritage and its people.
G&T is sponsoring the festival for the sixth year running and is looking forward to attending the wide range of events on offer.
Scotland’s rich architectural history is world renowned and the preservation of the country’s historic buildings is a passion of G&T’s conservation team. In 2002 our Glasgow office appointed former Director of Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, John McGee as Cost Management Partner. As one of only a handful of RICS Certified Historic Building Professionals, John’s depth of expertise in the conservation sector brought in key arts & heritage commissions and developed a core team of highly experienced historic building specialists based in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“Having worked for Glasgow Building Preservation Trust on the restoration of Parkhead School, The West Boathouse and Provan Hall, we are proud to be involved in sustainably preserving Glasgow’s architecture. The Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival provides a great opportunity to showcase the great work being done across the city.”Angela Coia
G&T Partner and Conservation Specialist
Angela Coia has worked closely with John over the last 19 years to become another well respected conservation specialist with a strong network of industry connections. Angela is a Trustee/Director of the Church Buildings Renewal Trust and her cost management sector experience is unrivalled in the industry. The Scottish project management business has also grown within the sector, enhanced by the appointment of conservation specialist Martin Sinclair as Partner in 2006.
The Arts & Heritage sector in Scotland is a close-knit community of trusts, consultants and contractors – each with a passion for repurposing tired and derelict buildings into visitor centres, creative spaces and community hubs. We have delivered a range of projects under the National Trust for Scotland’s programme of works within the last five years including Corrishalloch Gorge and Hill House Helensburgh as well as serviced community based projects for third sector clients including The Inverness Creative Academy, The Rockfield Centre, Parkhead School, The Engine Shed, Fairfield, Abbotsford, Edinburgh Printmakers and Govan Parish Church.
Meanwhile major complex civic building and museum projects like the Burrell Renaissance project, Kelvin Hall, The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh Biomes and Paisley Museum Re-imagined have cemented our reputation as sector specialists.
