Plans have been submitted by McLaren Living and AEW to transform a shopping centre in the heart of Reading creating a new mixed-neighbourhood which will include over 600 Build to Rent homes.

G&T is providing Cost Management services on the 600,000 sq ft redevelopment which includes public realm and improvements to Broad Street Mall. The scheme will also deliver new retail spaces together with considerable amenity spaces including roof terraces.

“G&T is delighted to be working with McLaren Living and AEW to deliver a major new scheme that will bring significant benefits to the local area.”

Paul Oliver

Partner, G&T

To minimise its carbon footprint, the development is aiming for a high level of environmental performance. Buildings will incorporate the use of photovoltaics and air-source heat pumps and each apartment will target a minimum EPC rating of B, with the non-residential parts of the buildings targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Oliver Westray, Development Director at McLaren Living said: "Our new plans focus on regenerating Broad Street Mall and delivering an enhanced and reinvigorated mixed-use neighbourhood, one which will deliver on the council's plans for the area and align with its vision for the town.  We've sought to create a renewed and vibrant retail and residential destination, one that will be resilient and sustainable and support the local economy.  We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Reading Borough Council to deliver our vision for the transformation of Broad Street Mall."
