In January 2025, Kevin Arnold, partner at Gardiner & Theobald (G&T) and Ambassador for Article 25’s More Than a Building network, travelled to Tanzania to see firsthand how the initiative is driving meaningful change.
As a Platinum member of More Than a Building, G&T plays a vital role in supporting Article 25’s mission to deliver lasting solutions in education, healthcare, and resilient community development. Kevin’s journey highlighted the tangible impact of these partnerships and the enduring value of thoughtful, sustainable design.
Fostering sustainability at Kao La Amani Children’s Village
After landing in Kilimanjaro, Kevin and two other supporters of the charity visited Kao La Amani Children’s Village, an off-grid orphanage for children in the Boma region. Alongside the Kao La Amani partners and Article 25 project team, Toby Pear, senior architect at Article 25, led a tour of the site, showcasing sustainable design elements and key recent developments, including a new dental facility and a much-loved sports pitch.
Visitors contributed to the village’s sustainability efforts by planting trees, while site architect Paulina-Shari highlighted the flourishing garden, a testament to KLA’s ongoing environmental stewardship. The visit concluded with a shared lunch and a cake-cutting ceremony with the children, celebrating the transformative power of partnerships.
"The architecture was impressive, but the space truly came alive when the children arrived. You could feel the beating heart of the community - it was stunning"Kevin Arnold

Empowering inclusion at Child Support Tanzania
Next, Kevin visited the Child Support Tanzania School in Mbeya, an inclusive learning environment for children with disabilities. Led by the Child Support Tanzania staff and site architect Lyia Harold, the tour highlighted thoughtful design features that improve accessibility and support diverse learning needs.
During the visit, Kevin and the other visitors were treated to custom clothing measurements from the impressive tailor, and a blind guitarist delighted everyone with an impromptu performance of Bob Marley’s music. The day concluded with cupcakes and warm farewells as children boarded the school bus.
"Seeing how Article 25’s design approach supports both education and inclusion was incredibly impactful. The thoughtful planning and execution ensure this school will continue evolving to meet the community’s needs"Kevin Arnold
