Transformation of the Category A Listed Victorian building to create a highly engaging and interactive visitor experience with new gallery spaces and learning facilities together with new cafe and retail spaces.

The restoration work was carried out in four phases over a 15 year period and included an extensive enabling works package, creation of new routes through the building, a new street level entrance hall, installation of new mechanical & electrical services as well as exhibition fit-out works to create the new gallery displays. The final two phases of the works were successfully delivered while the museum remained operational.

The museum now boasts 29 new galleries showcasing exhibits from the Natural World, World Cultures, Art, Design & Fashion and Science & Technology.
