New Aga Khan Centre celebrates official opening
The Aga Khan Centre in King’s Cross is the new home for several UK-based organisations and celebrated its official opening this summer.
Designed by Fumihiko Maki, one of Japan’s most distinguished architects, and founded by His Highness the Aga Khan, the 10,000m² research and education centre houses the Institute of Ismaili Studies, The Aga Khan University Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations and The Aga Khan Foundation UK.
G&T provided Cost Management and Employer’s Agent services for this spectacular building which features six roof gardens, courtyards and terraces inspired by Islamic landscape design from around the world.
Aiming to promote greater understanding of Muslim cultures, the first and second floors of the 10 storey centre provide education spaces complete with seminar rooms, while the third and fourth floors constitute the Aga Khan Library which can house 100,000 volumes and contains the largest collection of Ismaili manuscripts in the world.
“Seeing the building complete after being involved for six years is extremely satisfying. If you have the opportunity I’d recommend a visit, the roof gardens are completely unique and pretty special."Neil Langford, G&T Partner
